Vincent’s Vision’s Weblog
Just another WordPress.com weblogSocial Networking
I now have a Facebook account. Examined and searched, all my student workers and with in minutes had some replies. I liked the fast responsed from students I received but disliked some of information that I learned about them. I believe that libraries can benefit because one of the ways I’m going to benefit from it is that I now know that I can reach my student workers as well as other patrons better this way than any other way. To reach my profile page, go to facebook.com sign in or register and search by name.
Podcast by Vincent’s Vision’s
I felt like being creative today. I recorded my first podcast on “How to access your Student Pin Number, Student ID Number, and your E- mail Address”. Click on the link below and check it out.
Podcasts
I have been viewing and listening to various podcasts. One of my favorite was www.digitalpodcast.com/audiobooks. I can download books and movies and listen whether at the exercise center or in my car traveling. Best of all, the services are free. Our library could utilize podcasts at the beginning of every semester by creating small podcasts that instruct students how to go about doing things such as signing into their email accounts, self-register themselves into courses through webct, and sign promissory notes.
Browser Tools and Online Applications
I am glad to know that there is another internet browser besides Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox is much faster and allows me to customize it to fix my own special needs. My favorite Firefox add-on was in the category of Photos, Music & Videos. Image Tweak 0.171.1 would zoom, drag and display images against a custom background color. Also I, double clicked on “My Mozilla Firefox” and made Yahoo my home page since I have account now. The online application that I checked out was Picnik. Picnik is the most popular in our library because its works with your photos wherever they are: Myspace, Flickr, Facebook or your computer.
I discovered today that it is actually students on campus using Twitter. Visited my link@http://twitter.com/vincentsvisions and you will be able to keep up with me.
Twitter is fascinating to me because of this new technology that enables us to communicate through the computer and by using our cell phones as well to inform others what we are doing throughout the day. We could implement Twittler to improve library services by using it to inform our coworkers of our location and let them know what project we are currently working on. Twitter is useful, we can keep up with what others are doing and also be updated on what big name celebrities are up to. I was informed through my RSS news feed “Library Stuff” that Britney Spears now has a Twitter account.
Wikis
You bet I am impressed with Wikis website. I didn’t know it was a site that would allow you to edit, add, and delete contents on a website so easily. Librarians don’t recommend using Wikipedia, because they know that you can edit what you want and you’re not always dealing with facts. I did find and tried the Cherry Fluff Fruit Salad and Corn Casserole and both were delicious.
Updated Flickr Photos
I added photos of Mount Magazine Lodge. Ok world, vision these @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/30939838@N03/show/
Using Flickr in libraries
I discovered that the Flickr site can definitely improve library services. It’s an excellent tool for sharing and collaborating photos. But, I wouldn’t want to share personal photographs.
Visions of Mount Magazine
These are pictures, I took at the Arkansas Library Paraprofessionals Spring Conference at beautiful Mount Magazine State in Paris, Arkansas. Now, vision what 2009 Conference at Petite Jean Mountain State Park will be like.
